What is a Lifestyle Coach?
This topic is close to my heart because I usually get one of two responses when I tell people what I do for a living:
1: Oh that's neat!
2: What the hell does that mean?
A Lifestyle Coach, also known as a Life Coach can be many things. Tony Robbins, who is one of the world’s most renowned life coaches, sums it up in a very succinct way:
"A life coach encourages and counsels clients on a range of professional and personal issues. Life coaching is distinct from giving advice, consulting, counseling, mentoring and administering therapy. You would hire a coach to help you with specific professional projects, personal goals and transitions." To check out his website, click here.
Most life coaches can cover a wide variety of subjects such as business and career advancement, relationships, health and wellness, some will generalize, while some even specialize in one specific area. If there is something you want to change in your life, there is a coach that can help. A good life coach will have both the desire and training to help you reach your greatest potential. We can all use a hand every once in a while and sometimes it can be wildly helpful to get some outside perspective from someone who is invested in your success.
As far as HOW coaches do what they do, it depends on the coach. Generally speaking, they are there to be a pillar for you. Someone who is "fighting in your corner", but will also call you out on your B.S. and self-limiting beliefs or negative self-talk. They also add a layer of accountability and act as an anchor if you start slipping in your pursuit of your dreams. They hold that vision that you want in front of you like a mirror and say "How bad do you want this life? Let's do this." Coaches also help you to create a plan of attack for how you will achieve your goals, and a timeline for you to do so.
The difference between a lifestyle coach and a life coach is a bit of a blurry line. However, by searching for Lifestyle coaches, you will likely find a life coach who specializes in health and physical wellness or proper diet.
To sum it up, it is typically a matter of expertise and focus. A life coach can help you build healthy habits and change your lifestyle in order to achieve the life you want. If you are looking into life coaching, you should take the time to find the right one for you. Here are some examples of different types of coaches:
